LCHS- Guest Speaker Speaks Out Against Exclusion
LCHS students hosted guest speaker Keith Deltano- teacher, counselor, and creator of anti-bullying curriculum. Through comedy, Deltano brought home to the students what he deems is "basically cultural analysis, examined through humor. "What lets you know the kids get it is laughter, because it's ridiculous... I basically take a lens and say 'Do you see what I'm talking about?' ".
Topics covered included verbal & online bullying, cliques & exclusion, social media, suicide, & sexualization of the culture. His goal is to cut through the politics & to start the hard conversations rolling. "The change, if you work with kids and families, is breathtaking. It's staggering. It's alarming. It's depressing. And in America, we're just playing politics. We are not having the hard conversations. Why are kids killing themselves? Why are they shooting at each other? What's happening here? What's going on? We're just not having the conversation... We have a sick culture right now. There is something very wrong with us right now as Americans and we're not talking about it."
