Girls swim team adds accolades to season

The eight members of the Lady Grizzlies Swim Team are: Aidan Ratzlaff (SR), Sidni Meister (JR), Sarah Smith (JR), Payton Surridge (JR), Natalie Scott (SO), Madison Bevans (FR), Hillary Byrd (FR) and Bethany Merrick (FR).

They completed their regular season on Wednesday May 11 at the Inter-League meet in Osawatamie. A High School Swim Meets consist of 9 Individual Events and 3 Relay Events. The LCHS ladies brought home 16 medals, 13 of those medals being gold.

The following girls medaled in individual events:

Aidan Ratzlaff: 50 freestyle (1st), 100 freestyle (1st)

Sidni Meister: 200 freestyle (1st), 100 backstroke (1st)

Sarah Smith: 500 freestyle (1st), 100 backstroke (4th)

Payton Surridge: 50 freestyle (4th), 200 freestyle (5th)

Additionally both the 200 Medley Relay Team and 400 Freestyle Relay Team comprised of Aidan Ratzlaff, Sidni Meister, Payton Surridge and Sarah Smith took gold, as well as dropping enough time to earn them a 6th & 7th place ranking, respectively, out of 45 teams Class 5-1A in the State.

These four ladies will also compete in the State meet this coming Friday and Saturday in Lenexa. 

A huge thank you to Parsons High School Coach Helen Marshall and administration as well as the LCHS Principal Stacy Smith and AD Brianna Volmer for making this possible through a co-op agreement. An additional shoutout and thank you goes to Stacy Templeton for being the LCHS Ladies Swim Team Liason Extraordinaire, Personal Chauffer and quite possibly the team's Number One Fan.
