Labette County FFA Competes in District and Breakout Meats Judging Contests

The Labette County FFA meats judging teams recently competed in the Southeast District meats judging competition held in Eureka and the Ft. Scott Breakout contest.

The A-team consisted of Charli Alloway, Alyssa Barragar, Emma George, Lakin Giager, Keelie Good, Dallas Hill, Peyton Merrick, Cecillia Newby and Matthew Simmons. Individually, placing in the top ten at the Ft. Scott Breakout contest was Newby placing 8th, and placing in the top ten at the Southeast District meats judging competition was Newby placing 5th and Hill placing 8th. The A-team placed 5th at the Ft. Scott Breakout contest and 2nd at the Southeast District meats judging competition.

The B-team consisted of Zaylain Baldwin, Bradley Black, Jaya Fiscus, Sierra Hill, Aubrie Meyers, Jessie Myers, Lucy Pearson, Alexis Spencer, Tylee Trollope, and Brody Weil. The B-team placed 5th at the Ft. Scott Breakout contest and 7th at the Southeast District meats judging competition.

Students competing in the Meats judging contest identify retail beef, lamb and pork cuts. Students rate the quality and yield grade of beef carcasses. In addition, students place classes of beef, lamb, and hog carcasses.
